I wondered what this story was going to be, because all of the McCullough’s were coupled up by book 6. If you have not read this series from the beginning, you won’t appreciate this book. Go back to Almost Priest and start there, I’ve been reading this series back to back the last 2 weeks, so I promise, this book won’t stand alone as well as it does in the series. The first part of this book could be the prequel to the series, but if you’re not ready to give up the McCullough family quite yet, you’ll love the second half. It’s after the happily ever after that each book left off from with even more from each couple. It honestly feels like the author meant to end the series with book 6, as it had a bit of a final feel to it, but decided she wasn’t ready to end it yet. Told from so many points of view, this book was fantastic. I loved seeing everyone still going strong, still having ups and downs. It makes me want to be a part of this huge, loud, crazy family. This is expensive as it’s currently priced, but it has easily become one of my favorite series, along with its spin off Jasper Falls. There is still one more book to go, and I’m hoping it’s Kate’s story. We’ll see, and I’ll post when I’m finished.

Controlled Chaos by Lydia Michaels

I give this a solid 4 1/2 stars. Not my favorite of the series, but so well written. There is a lot going on with the entire family, not just Brayden. I was happy to see that he has grown and matured since book 1. I loved seeing his insecurities from what happened in book 1 as wel, it showed more of his character that was lacking in the first book. This series I feel is pretty important to read the whole thing in order, the way stories are told and pieces are shared. There’s the story of how Frank and Maureen met and married, and we’ve gotten little extra bits in each story. There’s more news from Sheliagh and Alec, and Luke and Tristan. So if you’re reading the series, you’ll appreciate still seeing the whole family. Becca and Hunter make for interesting characters, and so different from what is usually written about single moms. I can’t wait to see how they all blend into the rest of the family after their main story ended.

Broken Man by Lydia Michaels

I don’t seek out gay romance, but I knew of these characters from the Jasper Falls series, and I’ve been plowing thru the McCullough Mountain series, so I was very curious to see how this story played out. I loved that we saw scenes from the first four books from a different perspective. It really would mean more if you read the series from the beginning, it would probably be fine on its own, but I think you would get so much more out of it seeing them through other characters eyes leading up to their story. This book had so much going on, it was hard to put down, I blew through it quickly. It was heartbreaking. I cried sad tears and happy tears, this story was very emotional. I literally gasped reading one particular scene. I’m having a hard time putting this book into the right words without giving anything away. I can’t wait to read more about Luke and Tristan because of the things I know from Jasper Falls. I strongly encourage reading this story even if you don’t read gay romance.

British Professor by Lydia Michaels

This was my least favorite so far of the series. Still gets 4 stars though. Age gap and professor/student are a couple of tropes I usually avoid. Most of the time there’s an ick factor that I struggle to get past to root for the couple. Honestly I only read this because I didn’t want a missing piece as I’m reading the series. Also I remembered Alec from Wake My Heart and was curious how a British guy got sucked into the McCullough family. This book gets pretty deep with philosophical soul searching, which i dod not expect. It was interesting and I’m glad I read it, because it really brought Sheilagh into a new light. Even if you don’t care for these tropes, don’t skip this book, because I have a feeling it plays an import part in Luke’s book. Luke’s story has been building since book 1, and I am semi familiar from him and his love interest being involved in the Jasper Falls series. Jasper Falls is where I discovered this author, and I’ve been plowing through the McCullough’s trying to catch up before Side Squeeze comes out. It’s been interesting seeing where it began, and even seeing some of the characters that have been a part of Jasper Falls. I’m halfway thru and ready to dive into the next!

Irish Rogue by Lydia Michaels

Each book I love more than the last, but this one, wow. It was such a rollercoaster of emotion. Kelly of course was so much more underneath than what everyone thought, and it was so incredible to see how he came into his happy ending. I’m trying hard not to spoil anything, but this book was so good. It went well beyond the usual romance, seeing what happens after most books usually end. I loved it so much. I laughed, I cried, I felt. The McCullough’s are a quintessential Irish Catholic family. Faith and God and religion are a big part of the series, but it never feels preachy. It just is there, like a character of the book, not making you feel anything but inspired and hopeful. It’s just a beautiful thing to see and read. Yes, it’s a virgin story, which normally I’m not a fan of (incert eyeroll for cliché trope here), but this one was so different, so much better than the usual ones I’ve read. If you normally avoid virgin stories like I tend to, I suggest giving this one a chance. It’s such an amazing story, and if you’re reading this series, or have read the Jasper Falls series like I have, you’ll find the McCullough’s are an amazing family.

Beautiful Distraction: Small Town Romance (McCullough Mountain Book 2) – Kindle edition by Michaels, Lydia. Contemporary Romance Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Book 2 has been just as addicting as the first one. This was less scandalous, but still so good. I loved seeing Mallory come into herself. She has the lowest self esteem, and sadly its probably all too realistic for some people. I felt for her, but man it took her longer than I would have liked for her to believe Finn. I remember reading bits of him and Erin from the Jasper Falls series, so I enjoyed seeing how he and Mallory began. I love his nickname for her. I loved his support of her. They really balanced each other and it was so sweet to see. And seeing that Finn needed her love and support just as much as she needed his. I loved how it ended too, and I can’t wait to dig into the next book of the series. There wasn’t nearly enough of the rest of the McCullough crew in this book!

I have read or listened to several books in this series, but not this particular one, but for free, it’s not on my never ending to be read list. Warning, it’s clean!

Almost Priest: Small Town Romance (McCullough Mountain Book 1) – Kindle edition by Michaels, Lydia. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

I have read all the Jasper Falls books, but hadn’t read this series. I didn’t know it existed right away, but now I’m at least familiar with a lot of the characters. It may be a bit overwhelming for those not familiar with Jasper Falls because there are like 7 McCullough siblings. Even I needed a minute to get them all straight. I have never read a book like this before. The scandal of an almost priest, a secret affair. I may never have grabbed this had I not read Jasper Falls first. But I’m telling you, this story was so addicting. I can’t wait to get all the details on this family that I’m already vaguely familiar with. And can I say, the physical scenes (not all of them included actual intercourse) but they were hot, intense, and so full of chemistry. Like, really great scenes. I enjoyed this one completely. It is on the expensive side for an ebook, but it’s really good, so if you have sticker shock like I did, see if you can borrow from your library, or maybe we can hope she puts them in Kindle Unlimited soon.
