Petal Plucker by Iris Morland

This was such a fun, fluffy read! I normally am not a fan of “virgin” stories, but this is more than that. This is a second chance type, enemies to lovers type, who just so happens to be a virgin. It’s not the most important part of the story.

I discovered Iris Morland through Hidden Gems with 2 of her series. There are a few of her books for free right now on Amazon, so pick up a couple and see what you think.

The first I came across was I believe Seduce Me Sweetly, then was the Thorntons series. After that she branched into the Youngers, and now this series about these sisters, starting with Dandelion. Yup, her family owns a flower shop! As good as this book was, I’m super excited for the next one about Dani’s sister Marigold. The end of Petal Plucker sets it up, and wow, it sounds like it’s going to be awesome, I can’t wait!

So happy release day to Iris Morland on Petal Plucker, pick it up for a fun read.

More small town romance

One Hundred Reasons (An Aspen Cove Romance Book 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078NDMBNK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_TJ-QCbQHYKW3F

This is another one of my favorite small town romance series. There aren’t as many books in this series as there are in Wishful, but it’s such a good series! This one is similar in that I recommend reading book 1 first because it sets up a major plot point. But I read several of the books out of order, so it’s not mandatory. Most series though it does make sense to read in order if you don’t want spoilers of couples. I just finished the latest ARC of this series and I absolutely loved it. This is another one where it’s hard to pick favorites, but #2- One Hundred Heartbeats is still one of my favorites.

Kelly Collins isn’t just a small town romance writer! She has several series, another one that is small town (Small Town, Big Love series) but another one that’s based on a crime family (Wild Love series) that felt so different than the One Hundred series, but just as entertaining of a read. I believe all of her books are on Kindle Unlimited, which is fantastic to binge read with! I also loved her Second Chance series, which is packaged in a box set (so all 5 books only count as one selection on Unlimited!). She’s got quite a few books out there, and just like anyone, you’ll find some you love more than others, but overall they’re all really good. Check out Kelly Collins for a variety of books to keep your Kindle full!

Small town romance

Know Me Well: A Small Town Southern Romance (Wishful Romance Book 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011JD9SYU/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_wf1QCbY2W468W

This is one of the first books I read when I got my kindle. I got it for free doing a random search on Amazon for romance novels. I absolutely fell in love with small town romance and Kait Nolan just from this one book. This is book 3 in the series, so of course after I finished, I had to find more. If you join Kait’s newsletter, she gives you another book in the series for free. Yay, more free books! I love the fictional town of Wishful, and even though I’ve never lived in the South, it really makes you wish this place was real. There are a handful of books of hers for free on Amazon right now, so you can check them out to see if they’re your cup of (sweet) tea before you commit to a purchase. She is one of the few authors that I’ve actually paid for her books before. I told you I’m cheap – mostly survive on free books, and my kindle is full, so it’s doable. I’ve read everything from Wishful (so far) and thank goodness it’s an ongoing series. This is one I’d be happy if it never ended. Make sure you read To Get Me To You first (the first book in the series), it’s the most important one to read in order since it sets up the whole feel of the series.

Once I joined her newsletter, I found another series. Camp Firefly Falls. I haven’t read all of the books in it yet (there are currently over 20 of them), but I’ve read a lot, and own about half. Anyway, the first book in the series is free – Winning His Wife Back, and like the Wishful series, it’s important to read that one first to know what the deal is. All the other books can (mostly) be read out of order. This is a series written by several authors. I don’t know what the technical writers term for it is, but each auther writes their own book within the same world of Camp Firefly Falls. I started the series because Kait Nolan contributed to it, and Second Chance Summer struck such a chord with me that I actually reached out to Kait to email her about how much that book affected me. And guess what, she actually wrote back! I was floored that she took the time to respond. I was so proud of her when she later won a Rita Award for that book, which I’ve been told is like the Oscars of the book world. Between these 2 series, you’ll have plenty to occupy yourself with. Several of the Camp Firefly Falls books are in Kindle Unlimited, if you subscribe to that. If you enjoy fun, light, fluffy stuff, Camp Firefly Falls is perfect. Kait’s 2nd Chance book is a little heavier than most, but I think it was more for me personally than it qould be for most others.

Well that’s plenty to fill your Amazon wish list with for now. Enjoy!

Reading preferences

Since I have all of 2 entries at this point, I realized that if anyone happens to come across this lil ol blog o mine, you’ll want to know if we have the same tastes to bother keeping up with me. First and foremost I’m romance all the way. I love love. My most favorite part of a romance novel is the characters first declaration of love for each other. It’s such a sweet moment in a relationship. And armchair psychologist for a moment here, I think the reason I love that part so much is because I can’t actually remember the first time I told my husband that I loved him. I remember when he told me, and it was so dang sweet. And I’m sure it only took you a second to realize that that means when he first said it to me, I did not say it back!

Anyway, back to the whole point of this post, romance. I like pretty much all kinds. I don’t do anything science fiction, paranormal, shifter, any of that jazz. I’m not even sure how its all categorized. I really like small town, the realistic type stuff. I have read everything from clean to erotic, but my preference is somewhere in the middle. I like a variety of tropes too, second chance, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers (those can be hilarious!). I’m not overly excited about office romance, especially when it’s a boss/subordinate type. I dont care for things that are taboo. Like dad’s best friend, or step siblings. Too much ick factor for me. But I don’t rule them out. Just like siblings best friend isn’t always my favorite, but I’ve read some really good ones. I have read a few marriage of convenience lately that I’ve liked. I read one years ago that I just loved and of course I can’t remember the name of it. Hopefully it comes to me one of these days! I mix in some that have a suspense aspect to them to on occasion. I could never live on a farm or ranch, but I really like cowboy books for some reason. I feel like after having read so many, I could be a horse whisperer in like an I stayed at at Holiday Inn type situation. Oh, and military, there’s something about the romanticized version of a broken soldier. Like I said before, I read a LOT. Like I can put away a book a day sometimes. Most books don’t take me more than 2 days, so I can easily read between 15-20 books a month. Well I’ve clearly rambled, but you can see some of my preferences to see if you’re interested in my thoughts/reviews/recommendations. More to come!

One of my first “must read” authors

Interference (Prescott Family Book 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I90SWBG/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_Kk4PCbK34SJVF

This book started my obsession with Mignon Mykel. She’s an American author that has this amazing series about the Prescotts. This is the first book in the series, and the first of anything of hers I read. It’s a sports romance series, although this first book eases into the hockey aspect. It’s not nearly as heavy as the other books. The best in the series is the Playmaker Duet. And this is something I had to learn the hard way, so I’ll share a secret. Duet means a 2 book series with a cliffhanger. I personally loathe cliffhangers. Especially when you don’t realize it when you start and/or the second part hasn’t been released yet! But Playmaker, thank goodness, was complete when I discovered it, and Mignon has them bundled together on Amazon. This is a series you definitely want to read in order! You will absolutely fall in love with the Prescott family, and find yourself obsessively reading, yet at the same time feel sad that you’re through all the books. There will never be enough Caleb, Sydney, Porter, Asher, Noah or Ryleigh for me. Mignon writes in one world, which means all of her books have something that interconnects each other. Whether a specific character crosses over, or maybe it’s a location or some other detail that they have in common. I personally prefer series written like this. You don’t *need* to read every single book, but you feel like you’re rewarded for being a super fan when you see something familiar pop up. I’ll have to dig up to see if I can figure out how to post her order of reading. She’s got a couple of different series, but a couple of them intertwine in the time line of things. But Interference is where it begins for the hockey obsessed Prescott family. And don’t worry if you’re not sports literate, I don’t think anything will go over your head if you don’t know the game.

The beginning…

I really have no clue what I’m doing here, but I love to read and I’m cheap. What does that mean? Well, I learned a little trick to getting books from my favorite authors for free. Get on their ARC team. What’s that? ARC stands for “advanced review copy” which means authors send out free copies of their upcoming releases to people who will read and review on or around release day for that book, to generate buzz and help them get their book out there. So many people read reviews before they fork over their cash, so an author send us free copies to have as many good reviews posted asap to encourage sale. Makes sense huh? So as I’ve discovered authors that I love, I start stalking them until I can find a way on their ARC team. Some have very strict guidelines, which is why I started this little project. Some want you to have an established blog, some want you to have already reviewed a minimu number of thier books, or somw similar stipulations. If you’re intrigued by the thoughts of free books, there are 2 places I suggest you start. Hidden Gems is the first one. This is a site that has helped me discover so many authors that I now love.

Genre Landing Page

Hopefully this link works. But like I said, I’m new to all of this, so if it doesn’t work, just Google (or use your favorite search engine) Hidden Gems and sign up. It’s free, you check off what you like to read and then they send emails about once a day (it depends on your preferences ) and you can choose if it’s a book your interested in and go from there. Totally free! Remember, I’m cheap. Another good site is Bookbub. They send emails everyday with links to free and cheap books. This one you have to watch because the special pricing is usually temporary. So if you see a book you want, jump on it, because if you wait a day or two the price can go up.

Hopefully this link works to sign yourself up. No obligation to buy any books, and free to sign up! It’s another way to discover authors you love for free (or cheap).

Well, that’s about all for now. I’ll have to start posting some of my favorite authors and their books next. It could take a while!
