Since I have all of 2 entries at this point, I realized that if anyone happens to come across this lil ol blog o mine, you’ll want to know if we have the same tastes to bother keeping up with me. First and foremost I’m romance all the way. I love love. My most favorite part of a romance novel is the characters first declaration of love for each other. It’s such a sweet moment in a relationship. And armchair psychologist for a moment here, I think the reason I love that part so much is because I can’t actually remember the first time I told my husband that I loved him. I remember when he told me, and it was so dang sweet. And I’m sure it only took you a second to realize that that means when he first said it to me, I did not say it back!

Anyway, back to the whole point of this post, romance. I like pretty much all kinds. I don’t do anything science fiction, paranormal, shifter, any of that jazz. I’m not even sure how its all categorized. I really like small town, the realistic type stuff. I have read everything from clean to erotic, but my preference is somewhere in the middle. I like a variety of tropes too, second chance, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers (those can be hilarious!). I’m not overly excited about office romance, especially when it’s a boss/subordinate type. I dont care for things that are taboo. Like dad’s best friend, or step siblings. Too much ick factor for me. But I don’t rule them out. Just like siblings best friend isn’t always my favorite, but I’ve read some really good ones. I have read a few marriage of convenience lately that I’ve liked. I read one years ago that I just loved and of course I can’t remember the name of it. Hopefully it comes to me one of these days! I mix in some that have a suspense aspect to them to on occasion. I could never live on a farm or ranch, but I really like cowboy books for some reason. I feel like after having read so many, I could be a horse whisperer in like an I stayed at at Holiday Inn type situation. Oh, and military, there’s something about the romanticized version of a broken soldier. Like I said before, I read a LOT. Like I can put away a book a day sometimes. Most books don’t take me more than 2 days, so I can easily read between 15-20 books a month. This book started my obsession with Mignon Mykel. She’s an American author that has this amazing series about the Prescotts. This is the first book in the series, and the first of anything of hers I read. It’s a sports romance series, although this first book eases into the hockey aspect. It’s not nearly as heavy as the other books. The best in the series is the Playmaker Duet. And this is something I had to learn the hard way, so I’ll share a secret. Duet means a 2 book series with a cliffhanger. I personally loathe cliffhangers. Especially when you don’t realize it when you start and/or the second part hasn’t been released yet! But Playmaker, thank goodness, was complete when I discovered it, and Mignon has them bundled together on Amazon. This is a series you definitely want to read in order! You will absolutely fall in love with the Prescott family, and find yourself obsessively reading, yet at the same time feel sad that you’re through all the books. There will never be enough Caleb, Sydney, Porter, Asher, Noah or Ryleigh for me. Mignon writes in one world, which means all of her books have something that interconnects each other. Whether a specific character crosses over, or maybe it’s a location or some other detail that they have in common. I personally prefer series written like this. You don’t *need* to read every single book, but you feel like you’re rewarded for being a super fan when you see something familiar pop up. I’ll have to dig up to see if I can figure out how to post her order of reading. She’s got a couple of different series, but a couple of them intertwine in the time line of things. But Interference is where it begins for the hockey obsessed Prescott family. And don’t worry if you’re not sports literate, I don’t think anything will go over your head if you don’t know the game.

I really have no clue what I’m doing here, but I love to read and I’m cheap. What does that mean? Well, I learned a little trick to getting books from my favorite authors for free. Get on their ARC team. What’s that? ARC stands for “advanced review copy” which means authors send out free copies of their upcoming releases to people who will read and review on or around release day for that book, to generate buzz and help them get their book out there. So many people read reviews before they fork over their cash, so an author send us free copies to have as many good reviews posted asap to encourage sale. Makes sense huh? So as I’ve discovered authors that I love, I start stalking them until I can find a way on their ARC team. Some have very strict guidelines, which is why I started this little project. Some want you to have an established blog, some want you to have already reviewed a minimu number of thier books, or somw similar stipulations. If you’re intrigued by the thoughts of free books, there are 2 places I suggest you start. Hidden Gems is the first one. This is a site that has helped me discover so many authors that I now love.

It’s free, you check off what you like to read and then they send emails about once a day (it depends on your preferences ) and you can choose if it’s a book your interested in and go from there. Totally free! Remember, I’m cheap. Another good site is Bookbub. They send emails everyday with links to free and cheap books. This one you have to watch because the special pricing is usually temporary. So if you see a book you want, jump on it, because if you wait a day or two the price can go up.
